Les Vins Georges Duboeuf is a premium producer of award-winning French wines from the Beaujolais and Mâconnais regions of Burgundy and the South of France. Georges Duboeuf is the #1 selling brand of Beaujolais in the world.

Georges Duboeuf’s family love affair with Beaujolais is no secret. His legendary palate, his ability to spot great wine and his enthusiasm continue to make him an emblematic figure in the wine industry. His wines are renowned for their consistency, quality and value. Georges currently works closely with hundreds of wine growers (over 400 in the Beaujolais region alone) to ensure the highest quality fruit from each region. His son Franck, as second generation proprietor, has worked in every aspect of the company, from the ground up and today stands side-by-side with Georges, guiding the legendary label through its fifth decade. The Georges Duboeuf family of wines are sold in 120 countries throughout the world.

The 2015 Beaujolais vintage has been heralded as the region's greatest since 1976 or even 1947 (historically known as the category's benchmark year). Known for their elegance and aging potential, the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais wines from 2015 exude lovely round structures, exhibiting dark-red hues and floral aromas, ripe with flavors of black fruits and kirsch, as well as long, soft, unctuous tannins.

The 2016 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau complements an abundance of holiday dishes, from savory roasts to cranberry sauce, with all its fresh aromas of red and black fruits, strawberry jam and hints of peach on the nose. Beaujolais’ deep, granitic soils are responsible for granting its Nouveau wines such immediately gratifying generosity of fruit, and the 2016 vintage saw near-perfect summer growing conditions (in spite of some fickle spring weather). The ideal hot and dry crescendo to harvest enabled the resulting wines to bring out the best expression of the Gamay grape in all its fresh, fruit-forward glory.

Second generation proprietor Franck Duboeuf and Quintessential co-founder Steve Kreps will taste us through the following wines:

- 2016 Beaujolais Nouveau (SRP $11.99)
- 2015 Beaujolais-Villages (SRP $12.99)
- 2015 Domaine La Madone Fleurie (SRP $19.99)
- 2015 Morgon Jean-Ernest Descombes (SRP $21.99)

Les Vins Georges Duboeuf are imported exclusively by Quintessential Wines, based in Napa, California.

2015 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais-Villages

PRODUCER:  Georges Duboeuf
COUNTRY:      France
REGION:  A.O.C. Beaujolais-Villages
GRAPE VARIETY:  100% Gamay
SRP: $12.99

Description:
This Beaujolais-Villages displays a deep, luminous cherry color, red with bluish tints.  The bouquet offers ripe red fruit character, suggesting strawberry and black currant, with a touch of cinnamon.  Velvet-like in the mouth, with soft tannins, it is well balanced and complete.  A wine which lends itself to all occasions, from the aperitif to the cheese board.

Winemaker’s Notes:
The soil is made up of granite and decomposed schist. Harvest is done manually, with whole bunches, unstemmed. Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation at temperatures between 79°F-83°F. Maceration is between 6-8 days.

Serving Hints:
Serve as an accompaniment to creamy cheeses, Hors d’oeuvres or alongside roasted chicken or a light pasta dish. Best served chilled.

Interesting Fact:
Beaujolais-Villages takes its name from a number of wine-producing villages long identified for the superior quality of their wines. In this instance, “superior” refers to greater complexity in bouquet, higher concentration, and deeper flavor.  Its distinctive character sets a middle ground for Beaujolais, with its unique casual charm and the prestigious Top Ten Cru Wines to the north. If one could compare a glass of joyful Beaujolais to Mozart’s Cherubino, then Beaujolais-Villages would be Figaro-more mature, worldly and self assured.  Beaujolais-Villages is that ideal, multipurpose red wine we all look for in a wine.

Franck Duboeuf was born into the French wine family that has long been credited with popularizing Beaujolais wines throughout the world. His childhood was spent among the vines, meeting the many winemakers and vintners from the Beaujolais and Macon regions with whom his father Georges was then forging relationships that, in many cases,  are still in place over 40 years later.  After graduating from university with a degree in business/finance, Franck officially joined Les Vins Georges Duboeuf in 1983.   He has worked in every aspect of the company, from the ground up and today stands side-by-side with Georges, guiding Georges Duboeuf through its fifth decade.
